Pub memorabilia allows you to capture pieces of brewing history, aspects of breweriana’s rich past. Not only is it critical that these be preserved and kept alive but it is empowering to own pieces of the past. Not only are these a fine investment with memorabilia going up in price year after year, but these are just fun to own, to take down and look at once in a while. Proper pub memorabilia will inspire some great conversations, with friends or among your bar’s or pub’s patrons.
Hamm’s beer and pub memorabilia, memorialize one of the classic brands in American brewing. These include many of Hamm’s famous advertising posters and other beer paraphernalia. Hamm’s is perhaps the most storied of American brands (although many others vie for the title). Its history is deservedly rich with collectables, as the brewery was once synonymous with beer – and with the state of Minnesota. ("It's been a long day -- let's get a Hamm's.") William Hamm, an heir to the business was very famously kidnapped in the 1930’s. While many younger people have never heard of Hamm’s the brands memorabilia remains among the most collectable of all American beer brands and antiques.
Recently, Olympia has closed its doors (as of 2003) and interest in Olympia beer memorabilia is on the rise.
Of course, pub memorabilia doesn’t necessarily have to delve deep into brewing history as there are many great collectables produced as recently as the 60’s 70’s and 80’s. It doesn’t take very long for people to become nostalgic or for culture and societal changes to create room for nostalgia. For example there are many great ads from the ‘80’s that are already outdated in their portrayal of gender or of the world. (We all know how fast the world is changing!)
Pub memorabilia can include a wide variety of things you find in a pub including old style beer clocks, Bavarian works, tap handles, beer kegs, brewery materials like tank parts, as well as old tankards, lidded steins and much more, of course. As we’re fans of saying around here, the world of brewery collectables is pretty much infinite. These days, something from 1978 is called memorabilia or a nostalgia piece. Heck, I remember when something had to be from the early 20th century to be called an antique.
We’re all in danger of becoming beer antiques and pub memorabilia ourselves at that rate! – Jim
